5 Things most creators get wrong

Social media is the new TV—but so many people treat it more like a lottery ticket.

Better Content, Better Business.

Today we learn the 5 big mistakes I see from creators nowadays & how to avoid them in less than 5 minutes.

Plus you’ll figure out why you’re probably not Prince, just incase you thought you were.

Let’s get into It!

This is The Wrong Question

Both online and in real life, I get the question “Hey Ryan, what should I do to grow on social media?” The truth is, that question has a nearly infinite number of answers to it depending on your personality, your goals & so many other factors.

But one thing that is pretty constant, is what NOT to do on social media.

And to be honest the don’ts are a lot more common than the do’s

So today I’m going to give you the 5 Things to avoid in social media if you want to grow.

1: Copying People at Different Stages Than You

Look It’s smart to take inspiration from others-but you need to be careful who you’re copying. Posting 5x a day is Gary Vee’s strategy, but he also has a team that helps him do this. Worse still, some creators you’re modeling don’t even have a lifestyle that you want.

Borrow the ideas, but be wary who’s blueprint you follow.

2: Placing All Your Bets on One Piece of Content

Social media is the new TV—but so many people treat it more like a lottery ticket.

They place all their bets on one piece of content going viral & rescuing their account from obscurity. It’s a cool dream but in the worst case, it’s pretty damaging to your mindset around content. Truth is, you don’t need a big break. You need consistency.

Create a series, not a moment.

3: Doing Trends for Trends Sake

Not all trends are made for all creators.

Some trends might help you grow, but only if they fit your brand. Sometimes you can attract the wrong audience, or worse, repel the right one. This happened to a friend of mine who blew up with a viral dance trend that had nothing to do with his niche.

Now he has to take 2 steps back to recapture his desired audience.

don’t chase the wrong wave.

4: Trying to be 100% original

Here’s something we must remember:

Most creative ideas are actually wrong

This is why successful artists save their creativity for the parts that matter. Most musicians aren’t trying to recreate a genre with every song, they’re just trying to create a great song within their chosen genre.

Unless you’re Prince (You’re probably not Prince).

In content it’s the same, use formats & hooks that work for others and be creative in how you approach them. The originality should come from your angle, not your process.

5: Trying to win on Every Platform

Be honest you’ve probably seen a big creator crushing it on every platform, and thought “Hey what if I did that!”

That’s the wrong move. Especially when you’re just starting out.

You need to pick one platform to master, before trying to win on all of them. Focus is the difference between pros, and hobbyists. Doing everything is a recipe for burnout.
